Five for Five: Five Family-Friendly Stops Within Five Minutes of Chaparral Meadows

From a round of golf to Calgary’s tallest slide, there’s plenty to do close to home in southeast Calgary

Living in Chaparral Meadows means Saturday mornings can take you in a few different directions. Play a round of golf, head into Fish Creek Provincial Park, let the kids tackle a giant slide or simply pick up coffee and a treat nearby.

We’ve rounded up five family-friendly spots, all within about a five-minute drive of the community. Here’s what you can find just outside your front door.

1. Hit the links at Blue Devil Golf Club

For residents of Chaparral Meadows, a new permanent access road to Blue Devil Golf Club makes it even easier to get to the course in minutes. This southeast Calgary course provides championship views of the Fish Creek river valley, with an 18-hole course offering a full round, and a nine-hole Lil Devil course that provides a shorter option when time is tight. Once you're done, head over to King & Devil Tap & Grill. The restaurant overlooks the 18th green, allowing you and your group to catch up while watching others finish up on the course. And be sure to try their popular shareable appetizers like the Devil’s Nachos that many are raving about!

2. Explore Fish Creek Provincial Park

One of Calgary’s largest urban parks is right next to Chaparral Meadows. Fish Creek Provincial Park has kilometres of pathways through forests, grasslands and the creek valley, with plenty to see on foot or by bike.

Head to the end of 194th Avenue to find the Lafarge Meadows access point, where you can park and kick off your adventure. It’s an easy starting point for a morning bike ride, a family picnic or a quick game of "who can spot the most birds." Over 200 species of birds call this park home!

Fish Creek Park also offers a number of different fishing spots, playgrounds and plenty of benches to just sit and relax.

3. Take on Calgary’s tallest slide at Fish Park

Got a little adventurer at home? Fish Park in Wolf Willow opened in August 2026 and features a 3.5-storey slide, the tallest playground slide in Calgary.

The slide is the obvious draw, but there’s plenty more for kids to do. They can climb, scramble through rope and obstacle features and explore the fish-themed play elements. Younger children also have their own dedicated toddler area.

When the kids need a break from the playground, Wolf Willow’s pathway network and the Bow River pathway system offer another reason to keep exploring.

For families in Chaparral Meadows, it’s another spot to add to the weekend rotation.

4. Stop for coffee and a treat at Wolf Willow Crossing

Sometimes, an outing is just about getting the family out of the house. Located along 194th Avenue S.E., Wolf Willow Crossing has a growing mix of shops and services for those everyday excursions.

Grab a coffee and something to eat at Crystie's Coffee House and Bistro, and treat yourself to a manicure at Queen Nail Bar. Or, the kids can release some pent up energy by trying Muay Thai at Victory Thai Boxing and Fitness.

Wolf Willow Crossing’s retail offerings are also continuing to expand. Keep an eye out for businesses opening soon!

5. Let the dogs out at Woof Willow Dog Park

The kids aren’t the only ones who need a weekend outing.

Woof Willow Dog Park is a nine-acre fenced park in Wolf Willow, with plenty of space for four-legged family members to run, play and meet other dogs. And, it’s just a short drive from Chaparral Meadows.

The park has separate areas for large and small dogs, along with walking paths, seating and water stations. Both sides include agility equipment such as jumps, tunnels, weave poles and ramps.
